Learn & Master Ballroom Dance was both the most unintimidating and the most complete.  The production quality is very high and the instruction is much easier to follow than the other courses reviewed. The course included 13 DVDs, 6 CDs, and a workbook.  This made for one of the most complete packages as well.  It covers all aspects making it a great course for both the real beginners as well as the intermediate dancer.  It is also a valuable resource for the person that is looking to brush up on the current trends and styles as well as a look at the classical traditional dance.  There was nothing that should intimidate the beginning student, but it also goes into enough depth to really help intermediate students. Advanced ballroom dancers, however, might find it too basic for them.

With Dancing Lessons 101 the lessons are easy and well paced and in a few short weeks you will be dancing the Slow Dance, Waltz, Swing, Salsa, Two-Step, Cha-Cha, Hustle, and West Coast Swing in a matter of weeks.  As with most of the products I found, I had to order several DVDs to make any progress with my dancing skills. Shawn's DVDs are good for the casual or beginning student who needs to start at the very beginning.  You will pick up the basic skills and dance language fairly quickly.

This is really just a beginners course and will not take you beyond the basics.  You will be on your own for additional advancement and practice.   There are other products on the market that I found to be more helpful and entertaining.

This Video uses the star power of the TV Hit Show Dancing With The Stars to get you motivated.  This video is done by two of the professionals on the TV show and that star power is evident.  The dancing is beautiful, the instructors are beautiful, and the DVD is beautifully produced. You can choose from the rumba, samba, cha cha, or jive or buy the entire set together. Each dance lesson is over three hours and is divided into beginning, intermediate, and advanced lessons. With the popularity of the television show, these DVDs are definitely a hit. At the time of this review, the website is backordered, so you might have to wait a little while for your order.

What these professional dancers can accomplish in person with celebrity beginners does not have the same effect on the television screen. The instruction moves very quickly with difficult moves, many of which aren't explained. You are left to pick up the style of the dance for yourself. The nice part of a DVD, though, is you can watch the lessons as many times as it takes to learn the dance.
